Michiel Vandevelde

         From October 2014 till November 2014 I will be involved in a residency program run by the Brussels based workspace "Bains Connective".

This program, called "Thematics", is organized periodically by Bains Connective. Each time Lilia Mestre - the organization's coordinator - brings together different people (artists and theoreticians) around a certain theme or question.

For this "Thematics" period, Bains Connective will concentrate on the concept of Pharmakon as defined by the French contemporary philosopher Bernard Stiegler.

In ancient Greek Pharmakon means 'cure' and 'poison' at the same time, therefore highlighting the role of knowledge — savoir faire — in specifying dosage, application and ways of administrating.

Our starting point is a discussion with Alexandre Le Petit about his project "Institut Nomade", which focuses on the elaboration of dialogical dispositives and discursive objects that investigate the notion of culture. Giving attention to the question of the making and evolution of culture seemed the logical next step.
